Upper St. Clair To Celebrate National Library Week April 7-13

The Board of Commissioners issued a proclamation on Monday night designating April 7-13, 2024, as National Library Week in Upper St. Clair. Commissioner Todd D. Burlingame presented the proclamation to Upper St. Clair Library Director Chris Gmiter along with several members of the Library’s staff:

  • Colleen Miles, Head of Youth Services
  • Whitney Minyon, Reference Librarian
  • Karen Hathaway, Circulation Coordinator
  • Shylu Venkatesh, Library Secretary

“The library is such an important part of our community,” said Commissioner Burlingame. “We encourage all residents to visit the library and celebrate the adventures and opportunities they unlock for us all every day.”

This year’s theme for National Library Week is “Ready, Set, Library!” Most people know about the wealth of stories available at the library, from picture books and large print to audiobooks and eBooks. But there's so much more to the story of libraries. National Library Week is a time to highlight the essential role libraries, librarians and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening communities.

“National Library Week is a great time to celebrate not only libraries themselves, but the relationships between libraries and the communities in which they serve,” said Gmiter. “That is especially true with the Upper St. Clair Township Library. We take pride in working with residents and patrons of all ages for the benefit of this outstanding community.  If you haven't already done so, stop by the library and check out our new spaces, attend a program, browse our collection or just relax.  We are here for you.”

The Upper St. Clair Library brings the community together for entertainment, education and connection through book clubs, crafting classes, lectures and more. It hosts weekly events ranging from outdoor nature walks with Park Rangers to teaching others how to make Dutch string art.

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries of all types across the country each April.

National Library Week is the perfect time for patrons to visit the Township’s new third floor flex space, which is located on the third floor of the library. You can reserve a study room or stop by for one of the library’s many events.
